Automotive Lubricants Reference Book

The first edition was produced in 1996 by Caines and Haycock. Much of the book focuses on engine oils as well as other automotive lubricants such as transmission oils and greases. Considerable attention is given to specifications and oil approval systems, while the relationship between test methods and formulation technology is covered adequately. After reviewing the first edition the authors have fully reviewed and updated the information to fit in with the changes in technology and markets. The book focuses on two main areas which have changed since 1996. Firstly the continuing drive for improvements in the environment, particularly air quality and secondly the consolidation within the oil and petroleum additive industries with fewer people being in these industries. All of these influences have been fully updated throughout the second edition of the book particularly in chapters 4, 6, 7, 8 and 11. There are also significant changes to the sections on greases, industrial lubricants and rail road oils.
